Code of Ethics

Our Principles

At Il Progresso, our journalism is grounded in a commitment to accuracy, fairness, independence, and accountability. These principles govern every story we publish.

Accuracy and Verification

We verify every factual claim before publication. Our journalists cross-reference sources, consult primary documents, and seek corroboration from independent experts. When material facts cannot be independently verified, we disclose that to our readers.

Independence

Il Progresso operates without influence from advertisers, sponsors, or the subjects of our reporting. We do not accept payments or gifts in exchange for coverage, and we disclose any potential conflicts of interest to our readers.

Fairness and Impartiality

We present multiple perspectives on contested issues and give individuals and organizations a fair opportunity to respond to allegations before publication. When we make errors, we correct them promptly and transparently.

Source Protection

We protect the confidentiality of sources who request anonymity, provided the information they supply is essential to the public interest and cannot be obtained through other means. We honour our commitments to sources to the fullest extent permitted by law.

Corrections

When a significant error is identified, we publish a correction at the foot of the affected article, with the date and nature of the correction clearly stated. Minor typographical fixes are made silently. For complaints about our reporting, contact editor@ilprogresso.org.

Use of AI

We may employ AI tools to assist with research, data analysis, and initial drafting, but every published article undergoes full human editorial review. Final editorial judgment rests with our journalists.
