The multi-week streak of inflows into Ether and XRP exchange-traded funds ended abruptly on Wednesday, as investors rotated back into Bitcoin products amid a broad decline in cryptocurrency prices. Spot Ether ETFs recorded $48 million in net outflows, snapping 12 consecutive trading days that had attracted $1.62 billion, while XRP funds posted $7.2 million in outflows, ending an 11-session run that brought in approximately $170 million. Bitcoin ETFs, by contrast, drew $101.2 million in net inflows after heavy outflows the prior day.
The reversal was concentrated in a handful of prominent funds. BlackRock’s iShares Ethereum Trust ETF led Ether outflows with $53.4 million, followed by the Fidelity Ethereum Fund at $26.2 million and the Grayscale Ethereum Staking ETF at $23.5 million. A countervailing force came from BlackRock’s staked Ether ETF, which attracted roughly $53 million in net inflows, partly offsetting the broader redemptions. The data, compiled by SoSoValue and Farside Investors, suggests that while some institutional appetite for Ether remains, the broader sentiment has turned cautious.
The ETF flow changes tracked a broader slide in crypto asset prices over the past week. Ether led losses, falling 3.4%, with XRP down 2.4% and Bitcoin shedding 1.3%, according to CoinGecko. At the time of reporting, Ether traded at $2,407, XRP at $1.36, and Bitcoin at $77,744. The convergence of price weakness and shifting fund flows indicates that the previous weeks’ enthusiasm, which lifted cumulative XRP ETF inflows to about $1.68 billion, may have been driven by momentum rather than fundamental conviction.
The rotation back toward Bitcoin is notable because it underscores the asset’s continued role as the primary institutional gateway into digital assets. Bitcoin ETFs have consistently attracted larger and more sustained flows than their altcoin counterparts, and Wednesday’s reversal reinforces a pattern where Bitcoin absorbs capital when risk appetite narrows. That dynamic may persist if macroeconomic conditions, such as interest rate uncertainty or regulatory developments, remain unsettled.
For professional investors, the data raises questions about the durability of demand for single-asset ETFs beyond Bitcoin. The sudden halt to Ether and XRP inflows, even after substantial accumulated flows, suggests that these products remain more susceptible to rapid shifts in sentiment. As the market digests the latest price action, the divergence in ETF flow patterns will provide a crucial lens for gauging institutional positioning and risk tolerance in the weeks ahead.
